Salvage Art Chair Sketching (WIP)

I”ve decide to create a Van Gogh chair. The influence of pastels has made we want to paint in strokes also, so it will be a good experiment. I am practicing the strokes on the spindals first, and the I have sketched these color ideas and ready to start painting.

Underpainting for Salvage Art Chair

Here is the underpainting for my Salvage Art Chair, the main coat will have lots of brush strokes in many colors. So, I wanted a somewhat neutral underpainting in order that every spot will not have to be filled, but most of it may be coverd up. It is much like the underpainting I do for my paintings.I painted it a bright yellow. Sanded to white some of the open areas. Then a transparent glazing coat of burnt sienna on top. It has a wood grain appearance.

Life Drawing Nude (WIP)

This is how much I got finished after the model had posed for an hour. I rough in the darks with an umber, and where the strongest light is I use an ivory. I will finish the rest at home without the model. I’ll post the final soon. 15×18″ Hard Pastel on Warm Gray Paper.

A Blank Canvas (WIP)

I’m painting a funky chair for the Salvage Art Auction, a charity event for the Habitat for Humanity. It’s sanded and primed, and now I just need to decide what to paint on it. 🙂 Some themes I’m considering, Van Gogh, Magritte, Picasso, Franz Marc, or Dali, Halloween (Tim Burton-ish), Lilly pads with frogs and bugs, butterflies and flowers, houses, or patchwork fields and skies. Any preferences, suggestions or comments?

Sitting Pose at Life Drawing Group

I liked this pose better, even if resemble the last. I tried the Canson paper. I like the color, but the lines blend into the paper. A matter of taste. Definetly have to check which side of the paper is on top. The back side too rough and not to my liking. Unfortunately I have ten of these sheets to use up.
