This is an exercising in how many ways can I find to render a pair, starting with some of the most basic. In this case on the IPad using the Art Set Pro App with the oil Pastel tool.
For my summer travels and Plein Aire, I thought it would be handy to make a my own compact watercolor palette. This was a good tin for me to use because I love dark chocolate!
I flattened out the sculpey in the tin (the lid has a very thin layer), found an object to poke the holes, baked it according to instructions, sprayed a glossy clear coat on the sculpey, and squeezed my favorite colors into the holes.

“Life is a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get!” Forest Gump is one of my favorite movies, it couldn’t be helped!
What Animated film inspired me to do this Ipad painting?
It’s from “Le Tableau” a French animated feature film. In English it’s known as “The Painting.” I thought it would be fun to paint a picture like it and have brushwork. I took some liberties, but it was fun to experiment with this environment and the Art Set Pro App.
The French have other recent great animated films like “Ernest and Celestine,” “Secret of the Kells,” and “The Triplets of Belleville.” All of these movies including “The Painting” are available on ITunes.
I think using the IPad for Life Drawing works well. I was able to get the figure done in the 1.5 hour session, and I did the chair and background at home.
I used the Art Set Pro app on the ipad, because it behaves very close to natural media. I like the color pencil for drawing, and for coloring and shading I like the oil pastel, and paint. I manipulated it with the eraser, rag and water tools. I used a Wacom Bamboo Stylus.
I think it was worth the risk of repainting the sky. I exaggerated the perspective by bowing rows down in the middle, and the big clouds are bigger and lower with less little distant clouds.

The outline shows the placement of the old clouds, which was too evenly spaced, and the rows were straight across. I’m trying to learn to orchestrate the sky, which can get a bit messy. After this, if I’m unsure I will be more at ease to rework my paintings.
